Mites are belonging to the Subclass Acari (or Acarina) and the class Arachnida. Our site follows this Taxonomic framework for Acari based on “A manual of Acarology 3rd edition”, Krantz & Walter, Texas Tech University Press.

The Subclass of mites is divided into Orders. One of these Orders is Mesostigmata and is split into three suborders :

  1. Sejida
  2. Trigynaspida
  3. Monogynaspida

Most of the species presented in this Mesostigmata section are belonging to the Monogynaspida. For a question of organisation of this section (and not to overload the menus), we considered innapropriate to list in the first level menu the three suborders. As a consequence, the drop down menu of this Order is organised per Superfamily (we skip the suborders and Cohort levels). Nevertheless, the Cohort level can be selected in the categories widget to filter all the monographies of a given Cohort (example : Uropodina or Gamasina in the categories).
