Ixodida

Mites are belonging to the Subclass Acari (or Acarina) and the class Arachnida. Our site follows this Taxonomic framework for Acari based on “A manual of Acarology 3rd edition”, Krantz & Walter, Texas Tech University Press.

The Subclass of mites is divided into Orders. One of these Orders is Ixodida, which contains what we commonly name ticks, and this order contains only one Superfamily, the Ixodoidea. For this reason, the drop down menu of this Order is organised per genera.

The Ixodoidea superfamily contains the following families :

  1. Argasidae
  2. Ixodidae (illustrated on our site)
  3. Nuttalliellidae
