Haematopinidae

 

Haematopinidae are lice of medium or big size. No distinct eyes, but ocular lobes well developed. Antennas have five segments. Tibial inches well developed with spiniform apical seta. All three paired legs are similar.

This family has only one genera : Haematopinus

Endangered species not to be collected !

Haematopinus oliveri, is known as the pygmy hog sucking louse, is a critically endangered species. It is an ectoparasite found only on another critically endangered species, the Pygmy hog (Porcula salvania). It is endemic to India and can now only be found in Assam.
