Anoplura

Anoplura are wingless, obligate ectoparasites of mammals and birds. Highly host specific. There body is dorso-ventrally flattened. Eyes are variable, antennae 3-5 segmented, mouthparts modified for sucking and/or piercing. Legs are usually short bearing claws. Abdomen comprising 8-11 visible segments. Coloration usually cryptic matching host pelage or plumage.
